Indira Gandhi Culture Centre is organising an evening of Nazrul Geeti by eminent Nazrul singer Khairul Anam Shakil at Kabi Sufia Kamal Auditorium, Bangladesh National Museum, Shahbagh, Dhaka at 6.30 PM on 11 November, 2017.
Khairul Anam Shakil is one of the most well-known singers of Nazrul Geeti in Bangladesh. His music combines artistic vocal skills with meticulous attention to authentic compositions of Kazi Nazrul Islam. Inspired and initially trained by his maternal uncle Mahmoodur Rahman Benoo, Mr. Shakil completed his formal training in Nazrul Sangeet at Chhayanaut, and later trained under stalwarts such as Anjali Roy, Sohrab Hossain and Sheikh Lutfur Rahman. He also received training in Hindustani Classical Vocal Music from Pandit Narayan Chandra Basak and Ustad Mohammad Saghiruddin Khan.
Mr. Shakil is a Special Grade Artist of Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar. He also regularly performs for Kolkata based music channel Tara Music. He has been part of several Bangladeshi official cultural delegations abroad.
He has performed in India on invitations by the Government of West Bengal and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). He is regularly invited to sing in Nazrul concerts in India, Canada, USA, UK, Australia etc. His CDs have been released by Bengal Foundation, Laser Vision, UD series(Kolkata) etc. He is the recipient of the 6th Citycell Channel I critics award for the best Nazrul singer.
Mr. Shakil is a Member of the Trustee Board of Nazrul Institute and the Vice President of Chhayanaut Cultural Organization. He is also a Faculty member of the Department of Music, University of Dhaka.
